Safe zones are out of control!

Not a Bug

I was grinding down my ship, when _something_ got unexpectedly got loose despite me being as careful as I could.

Somehow a single piece of debris cause a 3 000 000 kg ship to be FLUNG out of the safe zone, and obliterated itself on the landscape!

I lost a massive amount of components and some precious prototech!

These safe zones are suppose to PREVENT damage, not cause it!

Hello Ilsa,

First of all, we want to say how sorry we are about your ship—and we completely understand how upsetting such an incident must have been. Losing that many components and prototech is no small thing, and we truly sympathize.

That said, based on your description, the Safe Zone appears to have behaved as intended, and we’d like to explain a bit why:

  1. Safe Zone Settings
These zones operate based on specific security configurations. While we don’t know your exact setup, we’re assuming you’ve whitelisted all of your owned grids.
  2. Loose Blocks and Ownership
When a block—like armor—gets detached, it becomes unowned. The Safe Zone then attempts to push that object out. Unfortunately, this repulsion force is quite strong and can end up affecting other nearby grids as well, especially if they're not anchored.

To help avoid this kind of issue in the future, here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Secure your ships using a Landing Gear, Magnetic Plate, or Connector—this helps prevent them from being moved unintentionally.
  • Convert your ship to a station while working on it—this ensures it remains fixed in place and unaffected by Safe Zone forces.

We hope these tips make your future sessions safer and more enjoyable. If you continue to experience unexpected behavior or have any doubts about your zone settings, feel free to share your save or log—we’re happy to take a closer look.

Best regards,

Keen Software House
