Offline and online mode save games not compatable
This is a strange bug; When Steam is in offline mode, all my savegames are missing, even the ones I made specifically "offline". But this is just the tip of the iceberg!!!!
Also, if I do make a world while steam is offline and I have no internet, when I steam goes online the world is missing from the load menu and it is as if it never existed! HOW?????!!!
I think I can understand some sort of cloud save system not showing games offline, but offline games not showing up when online is crazy.
When I put steam in offline mode and restart the game, there are my worlds that I only made when offline. Its like there are two savegame folders!
TO MAKE THINGS EVEN WORSE!
If I make a world while steam is online and save is as "offline". It can only be loaded and discovered when I am online! STEAM has to be offline for it to actually save offline.
I think this has been an issue for a while from on the forums at least; but every similar one was from 3+ years ago and archived; so my only guess is that a recent patch "unfixed" the bug.
PLEASE! somebody please tell me how SE's crazy savegame file system works, and tell me why the offline mode is not working as I would expect.
Hello Engineer,
Thank you for contacting us.
When Steam is in offline mode, game data are saved to a different folder:
- while in Online mode: \Users\current_user\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\SteamID
- while in Offline mode: \Users\current_user\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\1234567891011
You can simply transfer the saves across the folders to make them available in online/offline mode.
Please let us know if this helped.
Thank you.
Kind Regards

Thanks, I was able to recover my save game files.
Is there a reason why the save games are done this way?
Can you add a feature to open offline games in the online mode (perhaps as a second folder), it really would be a great quality of life feature.

I'm glad to hear you were able to locate it.
I believe the issue stems from Steam requiring Online Mode to access the SteamID of the logged-in user.
I'll forward your suggestion about the offline folder to our design team. Since this isn't a bug, I recommend posting your idea in a feedback thread, not bug report. We actively monitor those, and suggestions with strong community support are more likely to be implemented in the game.
I'll now close this ticket as Solved.
