Stuck on "Game Paused" in Single Player

Won't Fix

Hello, when I exit a world without saving, then return, or simply create a new world, the game keeps me in a "Game Paused" state, with no way to Resume game. I have troubleshooted by simple methods, these include, Graphics driver Updates, Verifying file integrity, restarting PC, Reinstalling Space engineers, and ensuring I have a good internet connection, and none of these seemed to have worked.

Hello Steven,

Thank you for reaching our forum with this problem.

Just to rule out the obvious, could you please check whether the Pause/Break key on your keyboard might be activated or stuck? Pressing it once can toggle the pause state in-game, and it’s easy to overlook.

Also, could you let us know more about when and where this issue happens?

  • Does it affect all worlds, or just some specific world(s)? Newly created or also when loading previously created/saved worlds?
  • When this problem started to happen?
  • Are you experiencing similar issues in any other games or software?

We’ll also provide a list of general workarounds that may help resolve this. While you’ve already tried several things from it, we recommend performing these again just to be sure all points from the list were tried.

  • Verify your game files in Steam - right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) - you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder - same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Thank you in advance for your response.

Kind Regards
