Game crashes when trying to merge with specific event controller configuration.

I have the following setup: two identical 'ships', each one has one Merge block and one event controller. the event controller is set up so that when the merge block gets unmerged, it gets turned off. That works just fine. however, when i try to merge the two grids, the game just crashes.
(turning the event controller off, merging, and then turning it back on works fine, so some problem with the event controller i think).
it also crashes when only one of the ships has the event controller active.
