choppy gameplay on an RTX 3060

Red Cheese shared this bug 51 days ago
Need More Information

Playing on a single player world the game felt much slower than normal and the F11 menu reported a high GPU usage (90%) whilst task manager said it was only using 20-30% of my GPU (RTX 3060)

Resetting my graphics settings had no noticeable difference and if anything else the game felt choppier than before

Video was recorded in a new world on the empty world preset with no mods or changes to the world preset

Hello Engineer,

Thanks for your report! To investigate further, we’d need a clean game log from a vanilla (no mods or scripts) session, as the one you provided included both. Could you please run the game without any mods and scripts, then send us that log?

Also, could you let us know what graphical settings you are currently using? Does the issue improve or vanish completely if you lower the settings?

Since you mentioned the game "felt much slower than normal," could you please share more information about details like when this issue first started to happen? Did you do any HW/SW update between these moments?

Please try our general workarounds that might help:

  • Verify your game files in Steam - right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) - you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder - same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please try the suggestions above and send us the clean log along with your responses. That will help us look into this further.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Thanks for investigating my bug

I did change from a laptop to desktop several years ago which was when I'd say the issue started I just never noticed it since that laptop only ran SE at 30 fps lol

deleting the config file did fix it but re introduced screen tearing and after a little bit more testing I think it was Vsync that caused the issue Since i use a 60hz monitor and SE doesn't have a changeable FPS cap i turn Vsync on to stop screen tear

New logs and a video with Vsync off and on
