Space engineer down!!

Solved

Evening,

I was going to enjoy a night of tinkering but upon loading space engineers tonight I have had it crash over and over with the message stating my graphics card is overheating. I can assure you that this is not the case as its temp was barely over 30 Celsius, and every other game loads and works no problem. I then removed the graphic card and attempted using my cpu on board graphics, This worked fine.

Please could you do some digging to find a solution. My graphics card is an msi geforce rtx 3050 venus 8gb.

Thanks

Hello Simon,

Thank you for reaching out to us and we sincerely apologize for the issue you've been experiencing.

Could you please let us know if the issue persists after resetting your graphics card? If it does, kindly ensure that both your graphics drivers and operating system are up-to-date. After updating, please follow these steps;

Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

Then, launch the game and from the game's main menu, go to Options > Display > in the Video Adapter dropdown, select your dedicated graphics card. Also, uncheck the Vertical Sync box if its enabled/checked. Ensure that the Video Mode resolution shows *** (recommended aspect ratio). If not, select the recommended resolution from the list and click OK to save.

Next, start a new world or join a server (preferably an unmodded/vanilla, world/server) to check if the issue still occurs. If it does, try these additional steps:

  1. Go to Options > Graphics.
  2. In the Quality Preset dropdown, select Low or Medium and click OK to save.

If the game continues to crash, please send us your latest crash log files.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind Regards,

After messing around I figured out what caused the error. When I last played I changed one of the video setting for adapter from "rtx3050 +display" to "rtx 3050" only. While I was running the game I declined to restart as I was deep in a build session.

When I managed to get back on using the cpu on board graphics and checked settings I remembered that I made this change, I then put it back to the "+display" setting, this resolved the problem. Not sure why this causes the problem but might be something for you guys to look into.

Hello Simon,

Thank you for sharing the update with us.

It’s possible that the issue occurred because the game wasn’t able to use the correct graphics driver, potentially due to a suboptimal video adapter setting, which may have caused the crashes. Since you’re no longer experiencing the issue after adjusting the video adapter settings, it seems no further assistance is required from our side. Therefore, we will be closing this thread for now.

However, if you encounter this or any other issue in the future, please feel free to reach out to us again or open a new thread.

Happy Engineering!

Kind Regards,
