I noticed this when placing a thruster on a floating ship. The ship was a cargo ship and could handle 5x the weight but would drop a bit each time I put a small thruster on it. I did put a large thruster on it once and the entire ship crashed (because somehow the large thruster turned off all of my existing thrusters on the ship.)

Could you please provide more details regarding this issue? Specifically, is it occurring in a modded (with active MODs) or in an unmodded (vanilla) world/server? If it’s in a modded world/server, we recommend checking it in an environment as well. MODs, especially if outdated or broken, can cause unexpected issues, and testing in an unmodded (vanilla) world can help determine if a MOD might be the cause.
If the issue persists in a vanilla world, could you confirm whether it happens with a specific block type or with any block you place? For example (this also relates to the issue Edward mentioned in the comments), if your ship's/grid power supply is limited and you place a block with high power demands (such as a Jump Drive), it could consume most or all of the available power, leaving other blocks like thrusters without power, which may cause your ship to fall or become unresponsive.
To resolve this, ensure your grid/ship has enough power to support all blocks, then check if the issue continues. If it still occurs in a vanilla world, please share a screen recording/video showing the issue, along with the vanilla world save or a blueprint of the affected grid/ship.
You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.
You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

not due to weight issue, just does it.
