Despawning Small and Large Proto Jump Drives

Whenever I try to take ownership, hack, and separate the proto encounter on site, it despawns when I distance myself from it, approximately 1k-3k away. I investigated if it was being destroyed by a player or, in some cases, by enemy AI on the block. Neither case applies here, and they have despawned on three separate occasions. I am wondering if something is causing them to despawn. They don't have any power attached to them, but they seem to despawn within 5 minutes of my distancing myself from it.
