Ion Thrusters not firing in Contant despite being on with dampeners

Won't Fix

I usually control thrusters from my cockpit. Normally, I will turn off a group of backwards ions and coast to conserve power (i just turn the brakes off, essentially). I retain all other thrust in all other directions. This normally works. But since Contact update, the thrusters no longer provide thrust unless I press a key. They used to come one when I activated the group and provided braking force immediately, but they no longer do so unless I press a key.

This concerns me because the game crashes frequently, so if I'm coasting with the brakes turned off, I don't want to have to spend the five minutes it takes to launch the game wondering if I've now careened into an asteroid. I usually make a deadman's switch with a timer which detects this and turns the brakes on for me whenever I crash (since if I crash, I can't press a key to turn the brakes back on), but this functionality seems to have gone away.

I don't know if it affects other types of thrusters, or just ions. I was using the sci-fi ions if that's helpful.
