max multiplayer count

I am playing on the official servers but they are always full, especially in weekend or after an update.
Will the max player counts be raised in the future? There is no way to defend when i being attacker or anything else.

I read somewhere that this was due to experimental mode required for over 16 players. Decoupling them could be a solution, or maybe Keen could look into server meshing.
I sincerely believe that the game would explode (in player count) if the official servers had more player slots.
