Skins nonfunctional on dedicated server [Steam] [1.204.018 b1]

Ashleigh Angela Moore shared this bug 4 months ago
Won't Fix

After the server updated itself this morning, I (and my players) am/are no longer able to use any skins for armour that are DLC-bound. I can confirm the server is communicating with Steam as it should be. The client lets you select it, and the holographic preview shows the skin, but once placed and welded the skin is gone.

Update: it appears to be more involved than just "no skins". It's almost like different parts of the game are considering the DLC in different states of ownership.

TL;DT:

Creative Mode pasting blueprint = no DLC blocks or skins

Survival Mode inserting blueprint into projector and welding = DLC blocks, no skins

Survival Mode placing a DLC block as a player = DLC blocks, no skins

Painting with either the Paint Gun mod or vanilla painting = No skins

Placing any fresh block = no DLC skins

EDIT: spelling

Hello Engineer,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem.

However, when I did try this, I did not experience any problems with paint function, skins, DLC blocks or blueprints.

Can you please provide me more information?

Can you maybe show me the issue happening on video, please?

Also, as you are mentioning paint gun, I take it you are playing on world(s) with mods active there, right?

Are you experiencing the same problem on non-modded worlds? Can you please try? Make sure that the game that you will test in is a newly started and there are no mods added to it at all.

If you are able to reproduce this problem on vanilla world (no mods), please provide the video from that world and also supply me the save in question.

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Please make sure that also some of the problematic blueprints are placed there as in-game grids, so I can copy them as blueprints as well on my side and try the exact same as you are doing.

Also please share me a log file from any of the affected game sessions.

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

If the problem won't be happening on the vanilla (no mods) game, there is not much I can do for you here, as we do not support mods as such; only the game itself. It is the mod creator/owner responsibility to make sure their mods are working with the current version of the game. In that case, please feel free to let the creator/owner of the mod in question know about this, so (s)he can act accordingly and make changes to the mod.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

1) I forgot to mention, but it does occur in non-modded saves

2) Once my server doesn't have any players online, I'll get the video of it in a mon-modded world. In the meantime, here's a video of it happening with the world I usually have loaded: https://homesrv.ashleighhost.net/imagehost/br/se/modded_noskins.mkv

3) The other admin who has vanilla-safe blueprints isn't available at this moment, and none of my blueprints are vanilla-safe. As such, I'll be saving the logs and the world saves for a second posting. Please do not close this issue until I supply those. I will supply them, but I'd rather not disrupt the tiny playerbase I already have.

EDIT: I'm saving the log file because something is causing log spam in the modded save, something about blueprints for crafting being wrong but the blueprints all work, so..?

Alright, here's vanilla logs of both the server and the client as well as a video of the issue happening in an unmodded world.

NOTE: THE CLIENT LOG FILES CONTAIN BOTH ME PLAYING ON THE ORIGINAL MODDED WORLD BEFORE SWAPPING THE SAVE OVER AND THE SERVER RUNNING A VANILLA SAVE! JUMP TO THE END TO SEE THE LOGS FOR THE VANILLA SAVE! Also, this bug ***will not occur*** in single player off of this server. I can supply server information if you'd like to join to see it for yourself; the server is public, after all.

Well, the other admin seems to have decided to not help me with the blueprints, so here's the world as pulled from the dedicated server. Again, this does not trigger in a client hosted game.

EDIT: Any BP containing DLC blocks or skins should be affected if the bug is present and occurring. The server will cause the client to pop a warning about "grid(s) contain blocks you don't own, this may cause the grid to split" and DLC skins are reset to the vanilla skins.

This issue can be closed. I have decided that after the game decided that the server and client won't tell Steam to download the mods anymore, that it's not worth it and have uninstalled both the game and the server software. I have been in and around helpdesks for a long time, and this is seriously the sorriest "help"desk I've ever seen.

Hello, Engineer,

sorry to hear that you are no longer interested in the game.

However, I will close this thread as you wished.

If you will play the game any time in the future and observe/experience any problem, please do approach our support by opening new thread here on the forum.

Kind regards,
