Game hitches and shadow settings are bugged.

Need More Information

For 4 years I have not been able to play SE because of this, no matter what settings it will always hitch to such an extent its unplayable. Specs: Ryzen 7 7700, RTX 4090, 128 GB of ram and the game is installed on a m.2 SSD, NO mods, and yes I have the 4090 selected in settings.

I just tried reverting to 1.193 and there are no problems or shadow settings bug, BUT that update was 4 YEARS AGO before the frostbite update, what should I do?

Hello, Joshua,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem and we are sorry that it is happening to you.

Please make sure you try all our general workarounds that help to most of the players solve most of the problems/issues.

These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder (to a different place on your PC so you won't lose e.g. your saves and blueprints) and delete it so the completely new will be created for you with all the files also created anew
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game – please make sure that you do clean reinstall. That means that after uninstalling it through Steam, you should navigate to both folders – the SE one in the Roaming folder and also the one from Steam (\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers) and make sure that there are no folders/files leftover. If yes, please delete these manually before trying to install the game again.
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

After you do all of these, please let me know if there is any change on your side.

If not, please provide me with a video of the issue happening, eventually what are the steps for you to trigger it. Also please share me the log file from any of the affected game sessions.

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Hello Joshua,

thank you for confirming all the steps above.

Sorry to hear that it actually changed nothing at your end so far.

Can you please provide me those files I have requested before (log, video), so I can try and investigate it more?

Thank you.

Kind Regards

SE (1.193) the shadow bug is not present in this version, any version above (1.193) has the shadow bug including (1.204.018 b2) I also had to downgrade the videos do to the 60 mb upload limit.
