thank you for reaching our forum with this problem that you are experiencing.
However, when I did try it on my end, everything was working fine; once the Trash removal is set On, it is collecting/removing the grids that are meeting the actual saved settings, and once deactivated, everything stays even though it would be removed if the Trash removal would be still operating.
Are you sure that you are having it really On and Off properly? Please note that when the On/Off button says "Enable" that means that it is currently Off and by clicking on the button, it would be turned On. When there is "Suspend" text, that means that now it is On and after pressing this button, it will be turned Off. Please try to consult the settings once more and make sure that they are set properly. If you don't want Trash removal to work and follow the applied settings, the button should say "Enable". See my image.
If you still think that you have it set properly, but it is still not working, can you please share me the affected save file so I can try it there, in your exact environments?
You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.
