Problems saving

Robin Kolodziej shared this bug 6 months ago
Won't Fix

After a few hours of play, Space Engineers no longer saves.

First of all, it takes 10-15 minutes until I can do something in the ESC menu

Secondly, the game tells me under the opiotion "Save": "Game is already saved"

Thirdly, when I want to finish the game, it tells me "World is closed" for several hours, for example this morning (2:30AM - 2:40PM CET)

And still did not finish the game.

I have repaired / reinstalled the game several times

I've heard that it can happen if you "mine too much (ORES, ROCKS, ICE)" but it wasn't much this time

I am desperate and hope for quick help

I've also read that you should run the game with administrator, but it doesn't help either

The picture shows the game progress

Hello, Robin,

thank you for reaching our forum with the problem that you are experiencing.

Can you please provide me more information on the subject?

First of all, I would like you to go through these general workarounds/fixes that help to most of the players to solve most of the problems. These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from this list would help you, can you please share more information?

Do you observe this problem also in some other worlds that you have tried or only this one that you are mentioning now is affected?

The affected world, is it set to be in offline or online mode?

How regularly/often does it happen to you? Are you aware of any "steps" or situations that might lead to this state?

Are there any mods on the save file active? If yes, can you please try if this problem is reproducible also in completely new vanilla (no mods) world?

Do you have set (and if yes, to how many) the Autosave feature on the world? Can you try to either lower the limit or turn it completely off for the time being and try without autosaves enabled?

Also, if there are already multiple of the autosave files, it might be a good idea to delete some of the older ones that you no longer need. You can find all the save files for all your worlds in "\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\\\Backup."

If any of this would help you, please reply to my questions above and also send me the log file from the affected game session (might be good to pin-point the time around when it happened, if the log would be too long) as well as the save itself, so I can try to load it on my end and see if I would have the same problem.

For logs:

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

For saves:

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards
