Steam: Game Won't open

Dear KEEN SOFTWARE Support


My Space Engineers won't open after clickin start in Steam. Steam still says that i'ts open and in the Taskmanager it says that SE is using like 20mb of RAM but nearly no cpu and gpu. But SE won't open.


I've tried: reinstalling the Game multiple times (I even deleted the Files in Roaming/Space Engineers and reinstalled)


My MICROSOFT .NET FRAMEWORK has been reinstalled and is up-to-date


I also don't have these 3rd Party Programms installed:


– Lucid Virtu MVP

– MacType

– LogMeIn

– xFire


I've attached the generated log too

Thank you for reaching out to us, and we sincerely apologize for the issue you have been experiencing.

Upon inspecting the provided log, it seems the game is unable to find the configuration (.cfg) file. To resolve this, you can either borrow the SpaceEngineers.cfg file from a friend who also plays Space Engineers (which can be found in the AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers folder on your friend's device) and paste it in the same folder on your device.

Or, you can try a 'clean installation' of the game. Although you have already reinstalled the game, a 'clean installation' is a more thorough process that ensures all remnants are removed before reinstallation.

To perform a clean installation, please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and copy the Saves and Blueprints folders to a different drive or folder.
  2. Uninstall the game.
  3. Remove any remaining files from the following locations:
  • \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
  • \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers

After completing the above steps, reinstall the game through Steam and check if the issue persists. If the issue is resolved, you can move your Saves and Blueprints folders back to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

If the issue continues, open Task Manager and 'End Task' all programs related to Space Engineers. Then relaunch the game from Steam. If the game still fails to launch, please send us the latest log file.

Sadly I don't have access to the config file of a friend, is there any other way i could get access to it?

Additonally, I tried the 'clean installation' although it did not work. I'll attache the log again.

We are sorry to hear that a clean installation didn't resolve the issue for you.

Could you please check if you have a 'SpaceEngineers' folder in your C:\Users\Hannes\AppData\Roaming directory? If not, please manually create the missing folder by navigating to C:\Users\Hannes\AppData\Roaming and creating a new folder named 'SpaceEngineers' there.

After that, verify the game by following the steps below:

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files (wait until all files are verified successfully)

Once done, launch the game via Steam and check if the issue persists. If so, please send us the latest log file.
