blocks keep spinning before placement

John Peace shared this bug 5 months ago
Solved

I had a world with 1 vanilla planet and a few block mods (windows etc & I tried a few character mods) where I was building a simple structure.

When I opened it today & began building in space, the translucent block that shows when you want to place a block was spinning and would not stop.

I started a completely vanilla empty world, no mods, no planets, and it was still happening.

If I hold down PgUp the block stops spinning.

I can place blocks OK and they don't spin.

It's a fun effect but could be irritating if it keeps happening!

Hello, John,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem.

I have tried to reproduce the problem on my end, but without any success.

Can you please provide me more information?

Can you maybe try different keyboard to see if some of the keys (PageDown, Delete or such) are just simply not stuck?

Are you experiencing this problem in other games as well (if they are using these keys) or when using the PC in general?

It this the first time that it happened? Is the issue still around, if you start the game and go play completely vanilla (no mods) brand new game? Or it is present in vanilla worlds only after it gets broken like this in the modded world?

Please try our general workarounds that helps to solve most of the issues for most of the players. These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Please let me know if any of these would help you.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

It's probably a one-off bug.

Yes it did happen in a completely vanilla world as I mentioned, but after a few minutes of building I noticed that the blocks weren't spinning anymore. You can close this ticket. THanks, I'll file all your troubleshooting steps for next time!

Happy to hear that you are no longer experiencing this problem.

Since there is nothing more I can do for you now regarding this, I will close this thread now.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you experience/observe this or any other issue in the game.
