Solved

So I was doing just fine using a control a brand new xbox control to be precise when suddenly the buttons stopped working and I can't get them to work now and have tried enable, disable restart etc. Unfortunatley I can't do the over complex mouse and keyboard so this is a serious problem. I know it is NOT the controller as it has been tested on other stuff after and works just fine. Your only resoloution is outdated and I don't even began to understand how that works. Please, please fix this. It's clearly a widely known issue.

thank you for reaching our forum with your problem.

Can you please specify what controller exactly do you have?

Please note that the game supports officially only those for Xbox One and Xbox Series X from Microsoft. Do you have any of these, or any other?

There is known workaround that fixed some problems with controllers. Please try this:

1) On your PC, open Control panel, switch to Large Icons

2) Go to Devices and Printers

3) Right click on the gamepad and open 'Game Controller settings'

4) Select the controller and press 'Advanced' button

5) Select 'Controller (Xbox One For Windows)' as preferred device

6) Press 'Ok' button

Does that work for you?

If not, can you please specify what exactly is going on on your side? Are all the buttons not working, or e.g. only LT and RT... ?

Does the controller work for you from beginning when you play every time and the input gets broken when you play? Or once it stopped working, it just doesn't work at all?

Currently It started with the L/R buttons and then when I restarted the game nothing worked at all on the controller. The applied solution you suggested seems to have no effect. I still can't get the game to register the controller now. Everything is set on my end. I don't know what else to do since nothing I have tried seems to work. I've adjusted settings in steam, in the game on the pc but nada a thing helped. It was fine until up around 123 hours of game play it abruptly stopped mid game on me.

Ok so update resolved it and I don't know if it would work for others but apparently having the controller on before starting it up fixed the issue.
