"Steam: Error accessing service", Error during publishing: Fail: [...] Result: k_EResultFail

Need More Information

I cannot upload to the workshop. It worked just fine a few months ago.

Whenever I try (no matter which configuration below I tried) it always does the same thing:

Give the error

"Publish failed | Steam: Error accessing service".

The game logs say this:

2024-04-25 05:10:52.930 - Thread: 1 -> Info: New workshop item with id 3231565535 created successfully.

2024-04-25 05:10:54.529 - Thread: 1 -> Error during publishing: Fail

2024-04-25 05:10:54.529 - Thread: 1 -> Info: Workshop item with id 3231565535 update finished. Result: k_EResultFail

I scoured every possible place on the internet and tried everything short of installing windows again.

What I tried (likely not a complete list):

  • Uninstall steam
  • Uninstall the game (multiple times)
  • Verify integrity of game files
  • Check Thumbnails (it has nothing to do with that)
  • Delete any and all combinations of local cloud files and configs and saves
  • Delete all online cloud blueprints (via Ctrl+F10; I have none currently)
  • Start a new offline world, with a fresh config and try to upload a single block with no color
  • Use only local blueprints
  • Every combination of disabling steam cloud in steam itself or the game itself
  • Contact steam support over this -- they told me to go to you.

I have a background in programming and about 1600 hours in this game, I kind of know what I am doing. And this is one of the few times googleing and researching did not lead me to fixing the issue; i don't start threads like this because I get frustrated after two minutes. I have been trying to fix this for like 2-3 days now. I am very motivated to help you solve this issue in whichever way I can. Give me debugging tools or whatever, ... but this state is just unacceptable.

Hello, JP!

Thank you for writing to us, and we sincerely apologize for the issue you have been experiencing.

We have had several similar reports from players in the past concerning the same issue, and they have resolved it by 'clean installation of Steam' and also changing the timezone to auto, as mentioned in this thread.

Although you have already tried reinstalling Steam, we recommend trying again clean installation of it.

Kindly try the steps mentioned in the above thread, and please let us know if that resolves the issue for you.

If not, please let us know if you can publish your items/blueprints on MOD.IO or not. Please also send us a screen recording/video showing the issue and the complete log file from the time this issue occurred.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind Regard,

Keen Software House: QA Department

I can give you this log file for where it happened exactly once just now (look for "k_EResultFail").

However I will not re-install steam again, as I literally just did that cleanly and I have not done anything significant since then. I will also not provide you with a recording. It would literally be me booting up the game, with a default empty offline creative world, pasting the default block on the toolbar into the world and after pressing Ctrl+B and "Publish" the screen would read:

"Publish failed | Steam: Error accessing service".
As it still does and has been for who know how long.

This empty workshop item was created in this action:

I can successfully publish to mod.io.

My timezone has been set to automatic this whole time.

The issue has not resolved itself.

The issue is still there after the update.

The issue is still unresolved.

I did the following things in order (again):

  • Uninstalled Space Engineers.
  • Uninstalled Steam.
  • Restarted and Updated my computer.
  • Downloaded and installed Steam, signed in.
  • Installed Space Engineers.
  • Started Space Engineers.
  • Started OBS and started recording Space Engineers.
  • (Recording starts here obviously. For some reason the game starts in german although steam is set to english)
  • Started a new World
  • Pasted a single block
  • Tried to publish it once. -- Didn't work
  • Set language to English.
  • Tried again. -- Failed again.
  • Closed the game.

See attached video and log.

I hope this is all the information that you need, however I can't imagine it will give much more insight than everyhing i have provided up to this point....

(And before you ask: I tried again right after with experimental mode disabled, didn't change a thing.)

The issue still persists. I don't mean to be annoying.

But let me say: I am HIGHLY motivated to help you fix this issue.
