[1.203.6] EOS Server "not" responding

Slushtrap Gamer shared this bug 2 months ago
Need More Information

At random times, the server appears to completely stop transmitting network data without a visible reason. There is no crash or exception, and the server keeps running but no longer shows up in the server list and cannot be interacted with by players. Those still on the server remain in a "limbo" where it reads "Server not responding" however the game is not left unless manually instructed to / the server properly shut down.

Though no direct cause has been found, more often than not it would appear to be preceeded by a user joining. Below is a log from the latest such encounter.

Hello, Slushtrap Gamer!

Thank you for writing to us and we apologize that you're experiencing issues with the EOS server.

Could you please provide us with some additional information about this issue?

Firstly, has this issue been happening recently or has it been consistent over time? If it started happening recently, have you made any specific changes to the server settings (if you are the server host) that could have caused this issue?

Have you/server host tried restarting the server to see if it solves the issue?

Have the players/clients who have joined this server noticed anything unusual or have any errors appeared in their logs?

Also, please check if there is any VPN active on your side (if you are the host of this server). Additionally, please check if there is any third-party software running on your/host PC that could interfere with the server's connectivity with the network. If you/server host find any such software, please disable it and check if the issue persists.

If the issue still occurs, please send us the latest server and client/player logs when the issue occurred. Additionally, please send us the server save to check and confirm if there is any issue specifically with the world file.

  • Players/Clients can access their log files by typing %appdata% into their Windows search bar and they will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that they just need to follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • You/the server host can access server save files by typing %appdata% into the Windows search bar and then will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated\Saves.
  • Either ask the server host for the save file (if you're not the host) and please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a Google Drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind regards,

The issue isnt completely new however it has become more common as of late. Restarting the server "does" solve the issue until it strikes again; as to when this happens is completely random, sometimes it has been observed to happen right after the restart. The server itself has a clean system with only the server operating. I will be sending fresh logs from the client and server, as well as the world files once its observed again.

Hello, Slushtrap!

Could you please let us know if you or any other players on the server have happened to experience the same issue again? If so, we kindly request you send us the files requested in our previous response.

Kind regards,

Took a while for it to appear again but here we are. I happened to be there at the time so ill be providing the world, the servers logs and my own logs for when it occured. It should be noted that when it hits, everyone in the server gets the same not responding message and makes it basically impossible to rejoin until the server is properly restarted.
