PC crashing dedicated server in every join attempt

Hi Team,

I've recently found SE and love it. I started out playing on my gaming laptop which can handle the game just fine, until we noticed our dedicated server crashing more than usual. I was ruled as the common denominator causing the crashes, then eventually my machine cant even get into the world it just crashes it immediately upon connecting.

I realize this might not be an issue on your end, hopefully it is, but I'm tired of playing on steam connect through a Linux machine its not a good experience. Please help with any suggestions you might have, or request any further information that you need. I do not currently have the server details but I can acquire them if needed.


Here is what I have tried

  • Reinstalling the game
  • Launching under different accounts
  • Launching from a Linux machine w/ my account and using steam connect (works but sucks)


Machine details

  • ProcessorIntel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
  • Installed RAM16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
  • System type64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • Windows 11

It turns out that I crash ANY dedicated server that I join...

I have been attempting to rule out certain variables. So far everything points top my machine, which works great for other games.

I have tried the following


  • A different (new) Windows user
  • Different network (Since the server is on my network)
  • Joining other dedicated servers including Keen servers, all crashed immediately.

I will refrain from attempting to further join servers because this is of course very disruptive, but this is a pretty big problem.

thank you for letting us know about this problem that you are experiencing and we are sorry that it is happening to you.

Thank you also for all the information provided so far, including that the the problem is the same for you now even when trying to enter also the Keen servers.

What exactly is happening, please? Does the game (client) crash, or the server?

Is the problem the same as well with games in Lobby mode, or you can access and enter those just fine (you joining to some other, you running the Lobby game and other joining, or both)? Can you please try?

Please try these general workarounds first. These solve most of the issues with the game. These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If anything from this list would work for you, can you please share me a log file from any game session where you tried to enter the server and you experienced this problem.

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers. That is for the log from the game. Also please if you are able, can you share me the log from the server as well, please? It can be found also in the Roaming folder, in folder SpaceEngineersDedicated. Files with the same name are the server logs. Please attach here some server log where you experienced this problem as well, so I can investigate ideally both logs.

When joining servers, the server itself crashes while the game continues to run smoothly. I believe the message I receive is "Disconnected from server."

We just tested lobby games with joining and me creating, no issues.


All general workaround steps have been completed.

After attempting to join again I am receiving a similar behavior with message: "Lost connection to host/server" while loading. The client did not crash and I was able to confirm the server did crash.

The server log is just starting from the first or second time I attempted to join and forward, I truncated the rest as it was all autosaves and not useful.

thank you for providing the logs.

As expected the one from the save is clean. But the one from you suggest that you are having ASUS build PC. Is that correct?

If you are having indeed ASUS PC, in the past, we already had some issues specifically with ASUS build PCs. There should be app on you PC called "ASUS Game First IV". Can you please try to turn it off, disable it or uninstall it completely before trying to launch the game?
