Unable to Launch Game

Won't Fix

Hello,

Had a bit of trouble getting the game to start. I'm not getting any error when I attempt to launch it, it just never seems to open. Nothing on the task bar, no errors. However I can find a process running using zero resources that I don't seem to be able to terminate. Only way I'm able to end it is with a reboot as trying via the command line fails as well.

Reading through problems other people have had, I've made sure that my .Net is up to date and completed all Windows system updates I can but it doesn't seem to have helped. Kinda at a loss about what else to try.

Hello, James,

thank you for reaching our forum with this problem that you are experiencing.

Can you please try these general workarounds, that solve most of the problems with the game, first? These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing would work for you, please do share me a log file from the game (if there are any created) and from the Windows Event Viewer.

For the game logs:

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Thank you. I have tried many of the items on that list already, but I'll work through these again to be sure and then find my logs if needed.

how is the situation on your side?

There is no new reply from you from the last time when you said you'll get back to us.

Can I please ask if you managed to perform all the steps I have proposed? Did any of it worked and you are now able to play without issues? If yes, please do tell me, so I can close this thread.

If not, could you please provide the log(s) I requested in my previous response? So we know if there is any error that could possibly point us toward some direction with this problem
