Frequent Crashes, SharpDX.SharpDXException

Won't Fix

Ello.

Writing this for a socially awkward friend. He keeps crashing every couple of minutes, logs attached. Would appreciate some ideas on what could be causing it/how to fix it. Cheers.

What we have done so far:

  • Restarted the game
  • Restarted computer
  • Verified integrity of files via steam
  • Reinstalled game completely
  • Reinstalled / Updated DirectX
  • Reinstalled / Updated Visual C++
  • Settings both on low and medium
  • Ran with and without plugins via pluginloader

Despite all that and in all above states, the game still crashes. It seems a lot more frequent on MP, but single player it happens too. Can happen when a block is placed nearby, a menu entry is changed, something is pasted, etc.

Thanks for your time, and I truly hope this can be figured out.

Hello, hahasel!

Thank you for writing to us on behalf of your friend.

SharpDX.SharpDXException: HRESULT: [0x887A0005] error is a hardware-related issue that is usually caused when the GPU is overheated/overclocked or the PCI Port malfunctions. To resolve this, we recommend following the below steps that could resolve it;

  • Check GPU/system temps/voltages with something like HWMonitor
  • If temperature issues, check GPU and system fans are clean and running
  • Switch GPU driver settings to high-performance (i.e. not quality/high quality)
  • Update to the latest GPU (AMD Radeon) drivers (or try clean installation), as it has helped other players resolve similar issues
  • Update your OS
  • If the GPU/system is overclocked, revert to stock clock speeds
  • Remove, clean, and re-seat the GPU and connections as they can be simply displaced or loose with time, or try putting the GPU in another slot.

Once the above steps are performed/checked, it is recommended to launch the game via Steam and start the game without having any Plugins, to check if the issue persists in a vanilla world (without having any active Plugins or MODs). If the issue doesn't occur in a vanilla world, your friend can try playing on a modded world/server.

However, it is important to note, that if the issue only occurred when having active Plugins/MODs in the game/world, it is quite possible the issue could be occurring because of them. We don't support Plugins and neither recommend them to our players as they are potentially dangerous and even can harm your device. We also can't support MODs as there are plenty of them out there and it's a MOD creator's responsibility to keep their MODs updated and compatible with the game's latest version.

In case the issue persists in the vanilla world, could you kindly ask your friend to provide us with the latest log files?

Kind Regards,

received, thank you! most of these things we've already done, but we will try inspecting the pci ports for dirt, since the card has travelled quite a bit.

After that, we will try a clean install and then see if this persists in vanilla (iirc it does but not 100% sure there yet). Will keep you updated, thank you for the reply!
