I can't join servers and other players from the Steam friends list

Need More Information

I can't join any Steam server, there are no problems logging into Epic servers and multiplatform servers. When you log in to the Steam servers, a very long download occurs, followed by the message "The server is not responding", after which you return to the menu. The same thing happens when you try to connect to a server that was started by a person from the Steam friends list. How can this problem be solved?

Hello, RussianBear132,

thank you for reaching our forum regarding your issue.

Can you please provide me more information?

Does this start to happen just recently (after some update), or you have experienced this even in the past?

When you are speaking about the servers started by other players/friends, do you know what type of the server that is? Is it Lobby online mode or dedicated server?

If you try to start any server (Lobby, dedicated) yourself, does it start correctly and other players are able to join your server without issues?

Can you please try our list of general workarounds first? These are:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from the list would work for you, can you please share me a log file from any affected game session where you have experienced this issue?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Hello,

Of course, I can provide all the information you need.

The problem arose more than 2 years ago. Since then, it has remained even after all the updates.

It doesn't matter if it's a lobby or a dedicated server - I still can't connect. When connecting to a friend from steam, there is a chance to boot into the game, but there is no menu, only a static skybox appears until I close the game.

When I start the game, everything works for me, but no player can connect to me, while there are chat messages that the player has joined the game and disconnected from it.

From the list of actions that you provided, I did the following:

I checked the integrity of the game files on Steam - the problem remained

I deleted the Space Engineers.cfg file - the problem remained

I deleted the Shader Cache folder - the problem remained

I deleted the Space Engineers folder in the Roaming folder- the problem remained

I restarted Steam - the problem remained

Reinstalled the game- the problem remained

My operating system has been updated to the latest version for each of the actions. Moreover, to try to solve this problem, I reinstalled the operating system - the problem remained

I will attach the log file to this comment.

By the way, I see only EOS servers in server monitoring. Can someone help me, please? More than a month has passed since my last answer

When I log on to the server, no menus appear, only the skybox is visible, only Esc works

I found out that the problem when connecting, when I only see skyboxes, is that when I connect to the server, I automatically get into spectator mode, in which there are no menus and there is only the ability to switch between planets. Spectator mode will turn off only after reconnect to the server, but since it is activated automatically for some reason, it does not help me. I also found that if I tried another Internet provider (in my case, I turned off my home Internet and turned on the access point on my phone), I can connect to the servers without errors and play on them, but Steam servers still do not appear in the list of servers.
