Game will not launch when ran at 144Hz but will launch at 60Hz.

Won't Fix

When I try to launch the game via steam the game will say it's running and will show that it's running it task manager, however it will not actually open and will use only 14.8mb of RAM.

When I change my main display (LG 27GL850) from 144 Hz to 60 Hz the game will open and run as normal. No other fix works. I've even uninstalled the game fully using Revo Uninstaller and installing it on a different drive and still had the same issue.

I will provide a link to the steam forum where someone helped me troubleshoot this far.

My system specs are also listed on that forum post.

Hello, engineer!

Thank you for writing to us, and we apologize that you're experiencing this issue.

To begin, at a 60Hz refresh rate on your current display/monitor, kindly launch the game via Steam and check if the correct video adapter has been selected in the game or not. To do so, follow the below steps;

  1. Launch the game and from the Main Menu go to Options → Display → Video Adapter (the selected video adapter here should be your Nvidia graphic card, if it is not selected, kindly select it)
  2. Also check if Vertical Sync is enabled or not. If it's disabled, enable it.
  3. Press OK to save the changes (this will prompt the game to close).
  4. Now change your monitor's refresh rate to 144Hz and verify the integrity of game files on Steam (Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files). After successful validation of all the files, launch the game to check if the issue persists.

If the game still fails to launch correctly, try the following workarounds;

  1. Update Graphics Drivers/OS
  2. Disable Overlays or Third-Party Software

Launch the game again via Steam. If the issue still occurs, kindly send us the log files when experiencing the game launch issue at a 144Hz refresh rate.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers, and send us both log files (the ones starting with VRageRender- and SpaceEngineers_).

Kind Regards,

I tried to launch it at 60Hz and it took a full 10 minutes to open. I know it's not the drive since it's had the same problem on two different SSDs and no other games have this issue on them They will launch instantly every time. When I tried again at 144Hz, it took 12 minutes to finally launch but only after disabling the steam overlay and verifying the game twice. This was never an issue for me when I last played about 8 months ago with the same hardware.

Hello, Zeren,

thank you for the log. Am I understanding it right, that you are now able to launch the game and it does not just run in the background?

I can see in the log, that starting the game took about 3 minutes. Is this the log from the time you tried to last launch it? Because you said it took 12 minutes.

What you can do is to reinstall Steam because you launch the game through their client.

Have you tried to just delete the config file in the SpaceEngineers folder? Without deleting the entire game, you will only have to redo the settings when you are back in game but will not loose the saves.

Thank you for letting me know if any of the above helped.
