Game crashes when placing light / heavy armor blocks

Solved

Hi,

Space Engineers crashes when I try to place light / heavy armor blocks in a new empty World or try to load up an old world. Every other block I've tested in the empty world worked fine.

I've tried steams integrity check, reinstalled the game, deleted the shadercache2 folder, but so far nothing worked. I looked at the log file, but without much success.

How do I go about fixing the issue?

Kind regards,

Hello, engineer!

Thank you once again for your prompt response and for trying the suggested workarounds.

It is important to note that the error shown in the first Windows Event Viewer log usually occurs when there are issues with the system drivers or hardware. In this case, it appears to be an AMD video driver issue. To resolve this, please follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall the driver using this tool: AMD Clean Uninstall Utility.
  2. Reboot your PC.
  3. Install the latest driver from here: AMD Support.
  4. Reboot your PC again, but do not launch the game yet.

Additionally, the second Windows Viewer log error indicates that you need to update your .NET Framework. Here's what you should do:

  1. Download and install the latest Microsoft .NET Framework from this link.
  2. After installation, reboot your device if prompted.

After the reboot, on Steam, verify the integrity of the game files (Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files), once all the files get verified successfully, you can then launch the game through Steam.

Please let us know if these workarounds resolve your issue.

Hello, engineer!

Thank you for writing to us, and we're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue.

Upon reviewing the provided log, we couldn't identify any errors or exceptions related to the reported crash. Could you please verify if the shared log corresponds to the precise instance of the crash? If not, could you kindly provide the accurate crash log file? Additionally, it would be helpful if you could share the corresponding log from the Windows Event Viewer when the crash occurred.

To get the Windows Event Viewer log, please open the Event Viewer (from the start menu, type Event Viewer). In the Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs, Application, and send the top “.NET Runtime” error from Application: SpaceEngineers.exe. (please see attached image).

To do this right, please follow these steps:

1) Select the correct file on the left side (Application)

2) Select first the .NET runtime error from the top (using default ordering)

3) Copy the large bottom text and send it to us.

Please Note: make sure that the info is from the Application: SpaceEngineers.exe

Hello, engineer!

Thank you for providing further information.

It appears that the error is related to the Windows operating system. We kindly request you to try the following workarounds that may help resolve this issue:

  1. Navigate to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and copy/paste the Saves and Blueprints folders to a different drive or folder. Afterward, uninstall the game and remove any remaining files from both \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers.
  2. Ensure that your Windows operating system and graphics drivers are up to date.
  3. Update or reinstall VC Redist 2017. You can find more information and download links at: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
  4. Update or reinstall .NET Framework. You can download it from: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework

After completing the steps above, please reinstall the game through Steam, and check if the issue persists. If the issue no longer occurs, you can move your Saves and Blueprint folders back to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Hello, engineer!

We apologize that none of the workarounds have helped in resolving the reported issue.

To further investigate it, we kindly request that you provide us with a screen recording/video showing the issue as it occurred on your end. Before recording, please attempt the following steps:

Verify your game files on Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

Additionally, please ensure that your operating system and graphics drivers are up-to-date.

After completing these steps, launch the game and start a fresh vanilla world (without any active MODs). Attempt to place the blocks that have previously caused the game to crash. If the issue persists, kindly restart the game and proceed with recording a video. Begin by launching the 'Earth Planet' custom game and placing various other categories of blocks (e.g., batteries, solar panels) before attempting to place the blocks that trigger the crash.

Please send us this entire screen recording/video, the game's crash log, and the Windows Event Viewer log as well.

Kind Regards,
