Space Engineers Won't Open

Won't Fix

I have had issues for a very long time now with being able to open Space Engineers, I would click start and simply nothing would happen. I would check logs and it said there was no config file found, and so I created one in the correct directory. It then had issues loading the config file, so I got a friend's config file (whose game works) and put it in the directory, and still the game wouldn't launch (I restarted my computer between each step). I noticed that if I checked task manager that I could see it running in the background, but there was no way to make it run in the foreground. Log attatched.

Hello, Gray,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing issues with launching Space Engineers. Here are some steps to help you get the game running:

  1. Check Game Integrity: Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  2. Disable Mods: Sometimes, mods can cause conflicts and prevent the game from starting. Try disabling all mods and then launch the game to see if the issue persists.
  3. Remove Config File: Since you mentioned that there were issues with loading the config file, try to completely delete the file. Then, try launching the game again. It will recreate a fresh config file.
  4. Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your GPU.
  5. Check Event Viewer for Errors: Open the Event Viewer on your PC and check for any errors or warnings related to Space Engineers. This might provide additional clues about what's causing the game not to start. If you find anything, please share it with me.
  6. Rename the appdata/Roaming/SpaceEngineers file: rename the file to something else (for example from SpaceEngineers to SpaceEngineers- backup) and see if you can then generate new cfg. file and shadecache when you launch the game (there will be newly generated SpaceEngineers file). The newly generated file will have default settings. If your problem will not be resolved by this you can change the name back afterwards and delete the newly generated file.
  7. Disable all of your plugins if you are using any
  8. Reinstall the Game: If none of the above steps work, try uninstalling Space Engineers completely, then reinstall it from Steam.

After trying these steps, check the game's log again to see if there are any new entries related to the startup process. If the problem persists, please provide me with any new logs, as they can offer more insight into the issue. Could you please also send me your dxdiag? Just follow this guide: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-and-run-dxdiag-exe-dad7792c-2ad5-f6cd-5a37-bf92228dfd85 and send me the file you will find.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Hello, Gray,

thank you for the log and DxDiag. What could be happening is that the game does not have permission to access the folder and it does not have the rights to create and change anything.

Do you own Space Engineers on your own account or is it being shared from someone else´s account but on the same PC?

Thank you in advance.
