Unable to launch dedicated server

Andy shared this bug 9 months ago
Won't Fix

When trying to launch dedicated server, the console reports:

Bind IP : 0.0.0.0:27096

Error binding server endpoint: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted.

I have tried also with the default port 27016, still the same problem.

After a few tries the console logs report connected to steam, but the service remains in a Starting state, see attached screenshots.

Also, when attempting to manually start the service I get an error as follows:

Error:1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

Additional troubleshooting, I tried to just launch the server as local/console (as admin) using 0.0.0.0 as well as the local IP and same issue.

2023-07-25 12:36:38.629: Bind IP : 10.88.111.100:27096

2023-07-25 12:36:40.298: Error binding server endpoint: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted

Hello, Andy,

I am sorry you are experiencing this issue. Can you please try the following:

  1. Check for Port Conflicts: The error message indicates that there might be a port conflict. Ensure that no other application or service is using the same port (in this case, 27096 or 27016). Try closing any other application that might be using these ports and then attempt to launch the server again.
  2. Run as Administrator: When launching a server always choose "Run as administrator" from now on.
  3. Steam Integration: Ensure that your Steam client is running and logged in with the same account that owns the game. Sometimes, issues can occur if there are discrepancies between the Steam client and the dedicated server's ownership.
  4. Update Space Engineers: Make sure that both the Space Engineers and the dedicated server are up to date. Check for any available updates through Steam.
  5. Verify Game Files: -Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  6. Restart Network Devices

If you are still having issues please share your log with me from the time you tried to run the server.

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
