Explorer achivement not registering progress

Denry A. shared this bug 20 months ago
Solved

I am trying to get the Explorer achievement in Steam, but I cannot get the progress to increase.

This is a bit of an older save (started September 2022) and I seem to have gotten the progress to 2/8. I revisited the previous planets and moons, along with a few new ones and it should read 4/8, but no luck. Three of the visits were done during a single play session. I have walked on all of the planets' surfaces.

Is there something that blocks this achivement from progressing? I may have temporarily set the world to creative at some point, I have opened the admin menu a couple of times and I definitely have "experimental mode" enabled. Seems like I would need to start a new game and try from scratch, but it would be good to know what exactly blocks this achivement.

Other achievements seem to work fine (e.g. achieved "Personality crisis" in the same save after giving up on the "Explorer" achivement).

Hello, Denry A,

I am sorry you are experiencing this issue. I tested this in my game but every time the progress was correct and I was able to complete the achievement. Are you using any mods or scripts in your game? Could you try to create a new save file and try to complete it there so that we know where the problem could be? You can also try the following:

Verify your game files in Steam

-Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

-You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

- It means your game configuration will be deleted

Delete ShaderCache folder

-Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it

Restart Steam

Reinstall VC Redist 2017

Update graphic drivers

Reinstall the game

Make sure your operating system is fully updated

You can also share your log file with me.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

And your affected save file:

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the response!

No mods are installed, no DLCs either (only base game). All scripts I have used are for programmable block.

Trying on a new save could take a bit of time, as it is not exactly a 10-minute test, so I will leave that for later : )

Ran verification of the game files, result appears to be successful (the result is visible only for a moment, likely due to the recent Steam UI overhaul).

Tried the following 5 scenarios (all with no luck):

1. I deleted the SpaceEngineers.cfg, re-enabled "experimental mode" (to fit my save - "in-game scripts" and "adaptive simulation quality") and retried landing on a moon that definitely had not counted towards the progress. No result.

2. I deleted the SpaceEngineers.cfg again, re-enabled "experimental mode", disabled "in-game scripts" and "adaptive simulation quality" features from the save and repeated landing. No result.

Note, that I cannot run the save without "experimental mode" enabled, even after disabling the two previously mentioned features.

3. I deleted the SpaceEngineers.cfg again, along with ShaderCache2 folder (note the "2" in the end), re-enabled "experimental mode" and repeated landing. No result.

4. I deleted everything from AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers except for Saves folder. Re-enabled "experimental mode" and repeated landing. No result.

5. Restarted the whole PC. For good measure, also deleted everything from AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers except for Saves folder. Re-enabled "experimental mode" and repeated landing. No result.

I have included the log and the respective save from this last run ("5.").

Regarding reinstalling VC Redist 2017, reinstalling the game, updating the OS etc, I do not see these being worthwhile attempts. Mainly due to after identifying the issue with this achievement, I was able to confirm that another achievement ("Personality Crisis") is still functional.

I am relatively convinced that the issue is related to the save itself, although I cannot pinpoint the exact cause. As I understand, it should work when "experimental mode" (along with in-game scripts) is enabled.

Since trying to make progress with this achievement on a brand-new save would require me to visit at least 3 planets/moons to see any indication, I would appreciate if you could look over the save and the log whether there is anything clear that is blocking my progress. Otherwise, I imagine I will stumble into the same issue again.

I can confirm that the issue is now solved. After updating to 1.202.124 version and launching the game I still saw progress "2/8". At some point after launching the game and landing on a planet, I noticed the progress had changed to "5/8".

Case closed from my end, thanks for the feedback : )
