Space Engineers running audio which isn't part of the title.

Won't Fix

Hello Support,

Just a few minutes ago I loaded and unloaded Space Engineers several times because of audio which was not part of the title (though it is known to me as being an intro video for software found on Steam) running shortly after it would load.

This is not an isolated incident, it started yesterday - but it wasn't clear to me what the source could have been because it wouldn't start as quickly as it did in this case so my thought was, apparently quite mistakenly, that a web browser tab was running an ad instead.

Any ideas as to what is going on or why?

Thanks.

Hello, Stephen Kolostyak,

thank you for contacting us and I am sorry you are experiencing this issue. Does the audio play even after you restart your computer and reload the game? Are you using any mods or scripts?

Have you checked your task manager for any background applications running?

Can you perform a thorough scan of your system using reputable antivirus or anti-malware software to check for any potential infections?

You can try to verify your game files in Steam:

-Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

If none of the advices above helped, can you please send me your latest log?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, Stephen Kolostyak,

you can also try to press "shift-tab" it game and it will pull up a browser. If you can find the source of the audio there you can close it.

Thank you for letting me know if it worked.

It looks like Steam's recent UI update has caused a few issues with video/audio playing in the background (such as the Store page video audio being heard in-game).

Try clearing the Overlay tabs to remove any currently open sources:

In Steam RMB on SE

- Properties

- General

- In-Game Overlay Data

- Delete

- Confirm

You may also want to turn off the Steam Overlay for SE (from the same General Properties page) until Valve resolve the issues.

Had this happen too. Open the Steam overlay with Shift + Tab, the store page for Space Engineers should be open with the video playing. Just pause the video or close the window.
