dedicated server not starting

John C Norman shared this bug 18 months ago
Solved

Starting dedicated server doesn't give anything in the log it just ends before starting. Running a local server starts fine. I assumed there was a connection issue so I viewed the connection_log.txt (in the files provided) to see if there was an issue. Also included the log file. Not sure what the issue is. It used to run just fine.

I have confirmed that ports are still forwarded and made sure the Visual C++ Redistributable packages 2013 is installed. However it also asks for 2017 and I can't find that. Unless its supposed to say 2015...

So the best reason I could come up with or why my server won't start revolves around the save files needing to be locally stored on the machine. I was attempting to store the files on a google drive to share them with someone I played on the server with. With symbolic links this effectively would give both of us the option of starting the server locally without losing progress. It worked for a while but I switched my setup to stream the files instead of mirroring them to save local storage space. (an issue with another dedicated server).

Pulling the files down locally from the cloud allowed the server to run just fine. Thanks for being willing to look into this issue. If in the future you guys find a way for the server to accept saved files streamed from the cloud let me know.

Thanks again!

Hello, John C Norman,

I am happy to hear your problem was solved. Yes, it is better to store them locally on your or your friends computer to assure that the server runs smoothly. Since there is no assistance from me needed anymore I will close this thread.

Happy engineering!

Kind regards,
