Game does not load world since Automatons update

Daniel Baulig shared this bug 18 months ago
Solved

Trying to load my world fails since updating to Automatons. I have both the DLC and the update.

The game just freezes while loading the world. Several times it got stuck on the actual loading screen (with the spinner stopping to move) and once it got into the world rendering a single frame, but immediately freezing at that point. In the latter case Windows showed a "Program is not responding" dialog.

I tried disabling all mods and changing the world from a private multiplayer world to a single player world, but neither of those things fixed the issue.

I rolled back to 1.200 (Warefare 2) using the Steam Betas menu and my world continued to load as expected again. I'm attaching a zip file of my save game.

I was able to resolve my issue using a relatively elaborate sequence of steps. I do still think that it's worth it to investigate and potentially address the issue on the KSWH side, since it might affect other people to that do not have the tenacity to spend hours of very structured debugging to resolve this issue.

Here is what finally allowed me to resolve the issue:

1. Create a copy of the save game and call it "Rescue"

2. Roll back SE to 1.201 Most Wanted using the Steam Betas menu (Right click Space Engineers in Library -> Properties -> Beta)

3. Start SE, click "Load Game", select copied save game and change settings

4. Set game to creative, offline, remove all mods, deactivate scripting

5. Load the game.

6. Save the game as "Rescue 1.201"

7. Exit SE

8. Reinstall the 1.202 patch by selecting "None" in the Beta menu

9. Start SE

10. Load the Rescue 1.201 save game. It should now load.

11. Save the game as Rescue 1.202 and exit out of it.

12. Go to Load Game and change the Rescue 1.202 save games settings back to what they were originally (e.g. Survival, Private, Mods active, Scripting active).

13. Load the game. It should now load with and be fully restored.

14. Enjoy.

Hello, Daniel Baulig,

I am glad you managed to solve your issue and thank you for the steps. Other players will appreciate it.

Please note that mods are not supported and it is always best to disable them before a major update and create a backup files just in case they break anything as it takes time for them to be updated.

Thank you for understanding and happy engineering!

Kind regards,
