Stuttering crazy

Bertram shared this bug 20 months ago
Solved

Hi I have a problem with space engineers causing it to be almost unplayble. The issue occured after some days playing it. The main problem is my simulation speed that keeps going from 0 to 100 and then a 1-5 second pause reppeating. I had mods on which i removed. I lowered my graphics very much from high to low. I checked my computers cpu usage while running space engineers which is at max 60%. I played a different save this also stutteret in the cpu usage. I have pressed shift + f1 and the problems is pistons and too much pcu, but my setup is almost nothing and havent changed when the game was running flawlessly.

What can i do?

Hello, Bertram,

sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues.

If I got it right, you were able to play without issues in the past and it started to happen just recently?

Did you do something in between these two session when it was last time working fine and first time you've seen this issue happening? Like e.g. tried to play the beta and then went back to the v201 game? Or did you change anything on your PC?

Does this behavior affects only some saves, while others are fine, or does it happen to you on every save?

Can you please try if the behavior is the same on completely unmodded world? I know you are writing that you did, but please do it once more on e.g. Empty world map without any mods loaded there right from the beginning; that way we can see if the behavior isn't because some residues from used mods even when taken out.

If still happening on completely vanilla (no mods) game, please try these workarounds:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from above would work for you, can you please share me a log file from the affected session (from the one when trying the world without mods) and the save file where this issue can be observed?

For logs:

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

For saves:

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hello, I tried verifying the steam files which helped the game performing way better. I noticed something when i played in my old save game. It was that in my base i had 4 assemblers each with 4 speed modules which caused a major cpu usage when running. I removed them and it made the game playable again. I now have a steady simulation speed between 1.02 and 0.98; is that normal btw?

Thank you for the support!

Hello, Bertam,

thank you for coming back with the update.

Happy to hear that the game is working better for you now.

Yes, this effect surely can arise when playing, depending on your HW/System and the amount of the simulations that are present in the game at the same time. Especially, when all four assemblers was e.g. working at the same time.

Since your game is running better now, can I close this thread or do you still need any kind of assistance regarding this issue?

Thanks in advance for letting me know.

Kind Regards
