Space Engineers & Display drivers issue

Tim Bruten shared this bug 20 months ago
Won't Fix

Hello,

I hope this email finds you well. I am currently having an issue with Space Engineers launching. I have recently moved house and I have had to switch to using a different display to use my PC. I am currently running an Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU and I was previously using a 49” Cello HDTV and the game worked perfectly fine on its highest graphics settings. I am now using the Sky Glass 65” 4K UHDSTV, all other games run perfectly fine including Medieval Engineers which obviously is created by yourselves also, with no display or graphics issues at all. But when I launch Space Engineers it fails to do so telling me to update my display drivers.

I am fairly competent in computers and technology so I have checked my drivers multiple times and each time it informs me that all my display and graphics drivers are completely up to date.

I genuinely love playing Space Engineers and I miss not being able to play it. Please do not think what I am about to say next is for sympathy or anything like that, but I have quite bad epilepsy and a severe spinal disease and whenever I have either seizures or I am in a lot of pain due to my spine, I fall to the game to help relax and calm me down or to help take my mind off the pain and your company and team have done more than just an amazing job with building Space Engineers to what it is now, you have given me something that has helped me at my darkest and hardest of times and I honestly thank you all from the bottom of my heart for that.

So if anyone can help me sort out the current issue, I would be so unbelievably grateful.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Many thanks

Timothy Bruten

Hello, Tim,

thank you for letting us know about the issue that you are experiencing and we are sorry that you are.

Please try these workarounds/fixes on your side first:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game – please do the clean reinstall. Meaning that after uninstalling the game, make sure there are no leftovers in any of the folders related to game data (the one in %appdata% and also the one in Steam/steamapps/common/SpaceEngineers). When sure there are no leftover folders/files, restart your PC, do the installation through Steam, restart the PC again and try to launch the game.
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

When you do all of these, but still be suffering same issues, please share me a log file from the game and from the Windows event viewer as well.

For game logs:

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

For Windows event viewer you can find "how to" here:

Please let me know.

Kind Regards
