Hinge rotation properties lost

Gromit74 shared this bug 14 months ago
Solved

Hi,

Suddenly, maybe when I switched to the beta version/automatons, all my hinges have no more rotating properties like velocity for example (rotors still do). I tried to create an empty world copying the mods list from the sandbox_config.sbc to another and when I load this new world, I can see hinges properties and make them move but I still don't understand why this does not work with my actual world.

Have you got any idea what I could look at to solve this problem ? It's quite complicated to find information in the log files.

I attach a screenshot so that you can see this strange behavior as in fact, the current angle and attached/detached state are still displayed + the log files from my last session.

Thanks a lot for your help and this amazing game

Hi Keen, thank you. I found I have a backup of my world before moving to the Automatons Beta. I'll revert SE to non beta and will load this save to see if the Hinge rotation parameters are missing. I'll let you know the results asap.

After returning to production version (1.201), I was able to load my saved world and to use my hinges. Then I switched to Automatons Beta, loaded the same world and then I can't rotate hinges anymore as I only see the properties you can see from the screenshot provided when I opened the ticket. Hope this helps :-)

Hello, Bruno,

I tried to reproduce the issue but unfortunately I was not capable of reproducing the bug you encountered. I noticed you are using almost 200 mods in your save which could have broken the hinges after the update. Could you share more information with me, please?

It would be helpful if you could share your save without mods with me.

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Also a video or steps to reproduce would be helpful to me. Thank you very much.

Good morning,

please find attached the zip file with backups removed.

There is no need to share a video as when I load this world (survival) with version 1.201, I just check via the control panel my hinges have the correct parameters for rotating and I have. I then leave the game and when I move to Automatons Beta, I do the same except I have not these parameters anymore. I also tried adding a new hinge block without success.

I also tried to use another world with the same mods list with V1.201, no problem at all and after migrating to Automatons Beta, it works fine here (the only difference is I'm in creative mode for this world) and I can even paste blueprints with hinges and this works fine. I suspect a corruption in world but I can't figure out how to check what causes this and how to solve it. I also tried removing some mods that could possibly cause this problem in the world that is affected but this did not change a thing. I could maybe try to load the affected world in creative mode instead of survival to see if there's a difference. I'll try asap.

Hope this helps

Good morning Bruno,

thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately I was not able to open your save you shared with me. I noticed numerous mods which I deactivated but the save gets corrupted so I cannot load it. Your save could be linked with mods to the point where I cannot open it without them (could be the case if you added for example Planets with mods).

Please keep in mind that we do not and can not support mods as there are hundreds and probably thousands of them out there. It's the mod creator/owner responsibility to make sure their mods are working fine with the current game version. Same goes with scripts and plugins. The creators probably did not update the mods for the new update yet.

I would advise you to create a new vanilla world and try the exact same scenario there as well. If the bug persists then please share the save with me.

You can also share your blueprint with me which I can then paste into my vanilla game.

You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

I would love to help you so please keep me informed.

Hi, thank you for your time on this.

I thought you could find the reason why the hinge rotation properties vanished after migrating to the Beta version inside the log file but it's ok, don't waste time with this. As I saw creating a new world with the same mods and pasting blueprints seems to work, I'll do that. It will take quite some time but at least it would be a good cleaning :-)

You can close the case then. Thanks again for your help and for this excellent (and my favorite) game.

Hello,

after yesterday's update I got again this bug and I finally managed to find the mod that was working well before the Automaton update but causes some problems now. It's the "SmartRotors: Solar" mod. I removed it, reloaded the world and I could get my hinges to move as their properties were back in the configuration panel. I've notified the author.

Just wanted to let you know in case other players encounter the same issues.

Best regards :-)
