Crashes in Space Engineers

Solved

Hi Keen Support,

I'm trying to play with my friends on a Space Engineers server we've paid for on Havoc Hosting. And I'm having an issue when I try to login to the server after having logged out in space (specifically on our space station). Basically Space Engineers cause my GPU driver to crash and blue screens my PC. I am using an Nvidia 3090 and literally no other game I play has ever caused this issue. I have also checked the GPU temperature using tools during these blue screen crashes and the temperature is well within acceptable ranges, so it is not "overheating" as your logs sometimes like to claim.

I have a work around which is to restart the server every time I want to login, obviously this is not preferred.

I have tried re-installing, validating files, tried all graphics settings I can think of, deleted the Shader Cache, and nothing has stopped the issue.

I am the only one on the server having this issue, so I am sure that the issue is not with the server.

Attached is a log from one such bluescreen event, not sure how helpful it will be as I'm not sure the game would have time to properly write a log during a blue screen, but hopefully it is useful.

Regards,

Lochlann Ramsay-Edwards

Hello, Engineers,

thank you for letting us know.

Can you please tell me if you are suffering the same issue on unmodded (vanilla) world? You can try e.g. by joining Keen official servers.

Any other part of the game (e.g. single player game) works fine for you?

If I understand it correctly, you friends are able to join on the said server without issues and only you are experiencing this?

Did you try to reach the Havoc support? As they are running the server, they could help you more than I can here, probably.

Anyway... you might want to try these steps:

  • Verify your game files in Steam right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If this issue will persist for you even after speaking with their support and after performing these steps, send me please new log file from a new game session. Also please share me a log from Windows event viewer. You can find "how to" here.

Kind Regards

Hi,

I have tried joining a vanilla server with no issues, (respawned in a Space Pod, logged off, logged back on no issues loading me back into space).

I also have no issues with single player, either.

I have tried:

Verifying Game Files - All files accounted for

Deleting .cfg file - didn't help

Deleting Shader Cache - didn't help

Restarting Steam and PC - didn't help

Graphics Drivers are up to date, as is OS (Windows 10)

Reinstalling the game overnight - will check tomorrow

Below is the lastest Event from the Event Viewer regarding Space Engineers, looking at the time this doesn't appear to be a blue screen event but a time when the game simply crashed (which does sometimes happen instead of a blue screen). There don't appear to be any Events from actual blue screen crashes (which makes sense for a blue screen crash).

Application: SpaceEngineers.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code c0000005, exception address 00007FFA9EB99616.
I did a quick search and the exception code appears to be caused by a buffer overrun.

I have also contacted Host Havoc support, and am currently waiting to see if they can assist in any way.

Lochlann

I have also recieved a response from Host Havoc and there doesn't appear to be anything they can do regarding the issue, since it doesn't appear to be an issue with the server, but the game.

Also the reinstall and removing of roaming folder didn't help at all.

Ok, so I re-installed the server files yesterday and so far today I have had no issue with Space Engineers crashing. I have succesfully logged on and off the server several times.

I'll keep a eye on it for the next few days to see if the issue resurfaces but it looks like it might have been solved by simply re-installing the server files.

I also turned off "Pause on Empty" on the server which might have also had an effect but I'm not sure as I did both at the same time.

Thank you for your time, as I mentioned I'll keep an eye on it and notify you if it resurfaces.

Regards,

Lochlann

Hello, Lochlann,

since it's already quite long time from your last comment, I take it you would already wrote to me if the issue would persist.

I hope that the game is and will be working fine for you from now on. If not and you would experience this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards
