Space Engineers crashes while attempting to join server.

Robert Hammond shared this bug 16 months ago
Won't Fix

While attempting to join Keen NA #4, the load screen will get to display the MOTD screen and either hang or crash. I can sometimes join a different server then retry the previous and that works about 40% of the time.

I have tried:

1.) Verifying my local files via steam.

2.) Deleting my shader cache in C:\Users\cones\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\ShaderCache2.

3.) Rebooting.

4.) Rebooting then any combination of above.

5.) Updating my video drivers.

6.) Prayer, Incantations, Rain dances, Candle Magic.

7.) Crying, Hair pulling, Screaming, Self Torture:(I.E Playing No Man's Sky)

My thanks to whomever fixed the status of my ticket. (I suspect I was responsible for it being set to "complete" in the first place)

Update: I changed my resolution to 1600x900 (16:9) from my previous 3840x2160 (16:9) and while the game looks like garbage at this ratio (I'm spoiled) I do seem to connect consistantly without crashes or hangs.. I would still like to hear any suggestions to get it to run at my default resolution.

Thanks..

Happy New Year o7

Hello, Robert!

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

Could you help us with some additional information?

As you have mentioned, changing the resolution has helped you to connect the server without any crashes, can you check if the correct graphic adapter has been selected in the game? To do so, click on Options from the main menu > click on Display > in the Display Settings, make sure that the correct graphic adapter has been selected in the Video Adapter setting (it should be like, Nvidia or something similar). Save the changes, restart the game if required, change to your previous (higher) resolution, and check if you can connect to the server. If the issue persists, send us the log file when you can connect to the said server with a lower resolution and the log when the game crashes while joining the server with the previous/higher resolution.

Kindly also send us the log file when you join a different server, then try joining the said server and could join it successfully.

We are looking forward to assisting you with this issue.

Kind regards,

First I confirmed that the correct graphics adapter is selected. Then I changed resolution to my original 3840x2160 and attempted to join:

First time success, logged out then attempted rejoin.

Second attempt to join resulted in a full hang (program not responding): log provided.

I then joined Keen NA #6 with no issue at the higher resolution, logged out and rejoined Keen NA #4 with no issue. log provided.

Finally, I joined using the lower resolution with no issues. log provided.

Thanks for any help.

Additional note: If I can get past the initial loading of the server, everything runs fine. The issue seems to be just getting in.

Hello, Robert!

Thank you for providing the new log files. We greatly appreciate it.

After inspecting the logs, it seems you are using Plugins, which probably is the reason for the issue you are experiencing.

Could you disable/remove plugins from the game and kindly recheck if the issue persists?

If you still experience the issue, please send us the latest log file.

Kind regards,

I should have included this in my original post under things I have tried. I have removed the plugins with no change. I will do it again so I can provide a log however.

I will be back at my computer shortly.

Thanks,

Robert Hammond

I removed my plugins and loader, restored my settings to my default resolution (3840x2160) attempted to log in and it crashed.

Hello, Robert!

Thank you for sharing the latest log with us.

Could you provide further information about this issue?

At your default (3840x2160) resolution, do you experience the same issue when joining any other multiplayer server, Lobby/DS, or playing as a Single Player? If yes, could you share the logs?

Kindly also change the window mode and recheck if the issue persists. To do so, from the game Main Menu, click on Options, select Display, in the Display Settings, click on Window Mode's drop-down and change it from current to Window/Fullscreen Window/Fullscreen mode (try each mode). Keep Video Mode at your default (3840x2160) resolution and recommended aspect ratio (16:9). Save the changes, restart the game and try to join the server you were experiencing the issue with.

If the issue persists, please send us the screen recording/video showing the behavior on your end, the latest game log, and also the log from the Windows Event Viewer when experiencing this issue.

To get the Windows Event Viewer log, please open the Event Viewer (from the start menu, type Event Viewer). In the Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs, Application, and send the top “.NET Runtime” error from Application: SpaceEngineers.exe. (please see attached image).

To do this right, please follow these steps:

1) Select the correct file on the left side (Application)

2) Select first the .NET runtime error from the top (using default ordering)

3) Copy the large bottom text and send it to us.

Please Note: make sure that the info is from the Application: SpaceEngineers.exe

I have tried the various window display options without change. To be honest, I'm just not enjoying the game out of frustration and I am moving on to other games.

Thank you to all who tried to track this down, but I am done.

Please take care and be safe o7

Hello, Robert,

thank you for the update.

Sorry to hear that you are not about to play the game, but if you ever feel like it again, we will be happy to see you again.

As there is no further assistance needed from our side at this point, I will close this thread now.
