What in the World?

Reuel Hoffman` shared this bug 23 months ago
Solved

I recently went through an unwanted Windows update and restart (Update, etc disabled, and some files purposely deleted, too), which killed the world I was working in. I idid a bunch of maintenance on my PC (cleaning, defrag, virus scan, etc), as well as deleting shader catches, fixing game files, and trying to run backups, to no avail!

Check the log:

I also deleted mods from my list, and un-subbed them (even had to manually delete them afterwards, since my Steam client likes to re-add them to my list and download them - without my permission). I also disabled Elastic Search with a Plugin, because it is utterly useless - and it keeps on returning "not found" errors.

What in the world is going on, and how do I "fix" it?

Hello, Reuel,

thanks for reaching our forum with your issue.

Can you please share me more information? What exactly are you reporting? Is the game crashing for you? Under what circumstances? What are you doing in the game?

Is the game crashing constantly for you (old saves, new saves, start new game)? Or is it connected to some specific save file and you are able to run new game without issues?

From your log, I can see that you are using plugin loader. Please make sure to disable/remove that from you Launch options on Steam.

Also there are still visible (used) mods in the log that you provided. Can you please make sure you are not using any mods at all when running the game? You can delete the mods even from the Load menu - Edit settings - Mods.

If this crash is connected to one game only, can you try to load some of the back-ups that are present in the game for that save (Load game - select the save - Backup button on the left hand side)? Does the backup work?

If nothing from above works for you, can you please try these workarounds as well?

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Once you try these and it still would not work for you, can you please share me new log file (with no plugin loader and no mods), stating more clearly what is your problem and when does that happen, please?

If it is connected to one save file only, it might be also a good idea to share me the save file itself as well, so I can take a look there in your exact environment.

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thanks.

Kind Regards

Never mind, it was the Accelerometer plugin.  Steam likes to crash almost as soon as it loads now, especially when clicking my Mouse or going through the G menu, though!
