Space engineers causing full computer shutdown

Nicholas Estoll shared this bug 23 months ago
Won't Fix

Occasionally when playing space engineers (especially when joining or leaving multiplayer servers) my laptop will unexpectedly shut down, requiring me to restart my computer. I have attached the log file from the most recent time it happened. It has happened in both modded and unmodded gameplay and has even occurred while in the main menu.

Hello, Nicolas,

thanks for contacting us.

After viewing your log file you provided, I can see that you have whole bunch of mod-related errors there.

Since you are writing that you are experiencing this issue on non-modded world as well, can you please provide a log file from a game session where you did not use any mods?

After turning all the mods off and starting the game without any, I also would try to validate the game data through Steam.

Since there is no error/exception at the end of your log, that would suggest that your PC is turning off due to the game itself, can you please share me a log from Windows event viewer?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

The shutdown doesn't happen consistently, so I will have to wait for it to happen in order to get logs from a non-modded game, however, I have attached the event log. Each pair of {6008, 41} events is an instance of my computer shutting down unexpectedly. (the file is in a zip archive, as I was unable to attach a .evtx)

Hello, Nicholas,

thank you for providing the log.

Reading about "kernell" from Windows event viewer log, these crashes aren't typically caused by Space Engineers and may be the result of a system issue.

Most of the time we are not able to solve kernell-related issues. These crashes occurs in a wide range of games and apps in general.

You can however try these workarounds as it did help to some players with the same issue as you have:

Please make sure you Windows are fully updated

Update your graphic drivers

Reinstall the Visual Studio redistributable: Download the latest version from the official Microsoft website (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe OR x64: vc_redist.x64.exe)

Run as a different user (a corrupt Windows user profile is a common source of this error)

Add -skipintro into the game launch options

Rename / Delete "\Steam\SteamApps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Videos" folder

Delete this directory: \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Promo (You can access your files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.)

If nothing from these works for you, I fear that shrinks our options how to help you, as it would suggest some SH/HW malfunction on your end.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
