opening older blueprints and saves

Nicholas A Boston shared this bug 17 months ago
Won't Fix

I have older blue prints and saves from years back that seem to be out of format. Is there any way I can make them useable in the current game version? When I tried to bring in the files themselves it didn't work.

Hello, Nicholas,

thanks for reaching to our forum with your problem. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing it.

Can you please share me all the saves and blueprints that you found that are not working anymore for you? So I can take a look on it on my end as well.

For saves:

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

For blueprints:

You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Here are all my blueprints and saves from a backup of the older version of the game. I would love to have the saves back as well but am mainly interested in the blueprints.

When I would transfer just the saves from the backup to my current game folder, they would show up in game as folders in the game world browser with nothing in them, and I couldn't load the world.

When I transferred just the blueprints, (local and workshop) the local files would not show up in the in game blueprint browser at all. the workshop ones worked though, but those I didn't attach.

When I tried replacing the entire current AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers folder with the old backup folder, the game would no longer start, so I deleted the folder and let it restore itself.

Hello, Nicholas,

thanks a lot for the provided files.

I took a look on it and found the origin of your issue.

Please when copying these files (blueprints and saves) pay attention of the naming of the files in the folders.

Please see the image bellow for better understanding. You can paste provided blueprints, if you fit the names for the currently used format and names. Paste the blueprint you want to use in game into your local BP folder in the Roaming/appdata (as you probably did) and delete the part of the names of each file in the folder. Worked with several BPs, e.g. "smuggler small base", "world eater" and "Wraith destroyer".

This should make you able to use all the blueprints in the game again.

I used the same logic with the saves, but there are some other issues with the folders (they are missing some files, unable to load etc.), but I was able to correct the "michael survival" save. If you once again delete the parts of the names that are in the parenthesis you should be able to spawn to (at least this one) save of yours.

Just make sure that the folders are having all the needed files in them and the names are corrected like described above.

Please let me know if this works for you as well and if you need any more assistance from our side on this.

Kind Regards

Thank you so much I'll go through and apply the fix to every thing I can. For my own reference, was the naming issue a result of a change to your file formats or my backup software?

Hello, Nicholas,

thanks for a quick reply.

I'm not aware of any naming convention change within the game and/or files that we are speaking about. So I assume, it's due to the software that you used for the back-up.

Update me please on the issue, once you try - are you able to use the blueprints (and maybe some saves as well) in the game properly? Can I close this thread or do you need more assistance from our side?

Kind Regards

I have been able to open the saves, but unable to save the world and continue to play on them. I think this has to do with deleting the "backups" folder in the save instead of going through and name correcting all 8 billion files lol. all the blueprints appear to work though with the name fix. Going to to back and try fixing the whole "backups" folder inside one of the saves to see if that helps....
