Space Engineers keeps crashing

Won't Fix

Hi,

I've been interested in Space Engineers for a while now and I have recently gotten the game. I have been trying to play the game, but basically every time I load into a world, the game crashes and claims it is my drivers that have crashed. I have the most recent drivers installed, I have tried all the general fixes, and the game is completely vanilla, but nothing fixed it. I have a Ryzen 5 5500 and a RTX 2060. Also, everytime the log says the following things, which I assume is the problem.

GuiTextures.sbc

Hello, rhoeve32,

thanks for letting us know.

However, I would need to see the full log from your game. Not just a snippet like you did provide. Can you please send me the whole log file?

Does this issue happens to you when you are trying to load to some previously saved game, or does this happen as well with completely new game for you?

Please before sending the log, try these workarounds first:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from this list won't help you and you will still experience the issue, can you please send me the full log file, as asked before?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hello, engineer!

Thank you for sharing the log file with us.

As a workaround, choose Options from the main menu > click on Display > in the Display Settings, kindly change your Video Mode to lower screen resolution and make sure that the correct graphic adapter and/or monitor has been selected in the Video Adapter setting. Save the changes, restart the game if required and try to play.

Please let us know if that resolves the issue.

Lowering the resolution hasn't fixed the problem and I have selected the correct screen.

Hello, rhoeve32,

thanks for the log.

Please note that the log is full of "Exception occurred: SharpDX.SharpDXException: HRESULT: [0x887A0005], Module: [SharpDX.DXGI], ApiCode: [DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED/DeviceRemoved]" errors.

As you can tell by the "device removed" part, it is actually likely that the issue is not on our side. This error indicates that the card is not properly set and/or connected in a hardware way.

Please see e.g. the discussion with the same issue/same error here.

Especially note the "Update" right on top of the discussion: "Found a single hair in my PCIe slot". From this, you can see that cards and their connection to PCI are rather vulnerable to any physical/mechanical change/removal/not being 100% connected to PCI. Or you PC might be just dusty inside.

It might be good practice if you would be able and willing to use the PC duster and some PC thermal paste on your PC's components.

Kind Regards
