Space engineers wont launch

Axel TheProtogen shared this bug 23 months ago
Won't Fix

When I try to open space engineers from my steam library, it says the game is running but no new window is created.

At first this was for all my games but after I reinstalled steam the issue went away for all of my games except space engineers.

It then stops saying that it is running at all. I've tried running apps as administrator, I've tried running the app in compatibility mode, I've updated my drivers, yet nothing seems to work.

The first time I launched the game I received a bad image error, but I no longer get those. Please help, thank you.

Here are my system specs:

Hello, Axel!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

As you have mentioned experiencing the issue after reinstalling steam, we recommend you try the following workarounds that might resolve your issue :

Verify your game files on Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from above would work for you, can you send us a log from the Windows Event Viewer?

We are looking forward to assisting you with this issue.

Kind Regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

I'm looking for the cfg file and after doing everything you've said, it's not where it's supposed to be. There is no space engineers folder in the roaming folder.

Hello, Axel!

If there isn't any Space Engineers folder in Roaming, we recommend you try SE's new/fresh installation by deleting every leftover in the Steam SE folders.

If the issue persists after fresh installation, kindly send us the log files.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar, and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that, just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind Regards,
