The First Jump - Mission 01 stuck in different place

Michal Gajdos shared this bug 2 years ago
Solved

In "The First Jump - Mission 01" I spawn in a tiny corridor with air vent and door into space. It is situated on a small body floating around a planet (see screenshot).

Everywhere on the internet the description of this mission starts with "You wake up in your shuttle's crypopod", also there are videos where player is situated on a totally different place than me.

The only thing a can do is to open the door and jump to death (my jetpack doesn't work). Am I doing something wrong or is it some bug?

I am playing on Ubuntu Linux on Steam (Proton) without any mods.

Hello, Michael,

thanks for letting us know.

However, your issue is really strange.

Please see my screenshot from the game right after the spawn.

Be aware that the game officially do not support Linux as such. It is possible that your issue arose from this fact.

I will write you down the general advices but I'm not sure how (or if) it is any good on Linux, as I'm not familiar with that OS at all:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

We also have a Discord channel dedicated to troubleshoot the issues on Linux. You are most definitely able to get better help there as the community there is playing on Linux as well.

Discord is used as a tool to help easily resolve official server issues in real-time.

If you have encountered an issue in Space Engineers, please take the following steps:

~Join our official Discord server https://discord.gg/keenswh

~Contact community members in the #Space Engineers – linux Discord channel

If nothing from above would work for you, can you please share me the save file of your game so I can take a look on my own as well, please?

Kind Regards

Thank you very much for your effort, it works now!

What I did:

- verified integrity of game files => Everything OK

- deleted SpaceEngineers.cfg and ShaderCache2

- in Steam -> SE -> Properties -> General unchecked Steam Overlay, Game Theatre; added launch option: -skipintro

- launched the game

- started a new game -> The First Jump

Then I saw:

- static loading screen with a hint text

- for a few seconds there was a picture of that air vent from "the different place" where I was stuck yesterday fading from the dark

- but after that it switched to the cutscene and continued as expected, including the correct spawning place

So it seems that the mysterious "different place" was a (part of a) ship used in the cutscene and the problem was that it gave controls to the player instead of playing a cutscene.

I've tried to make a screenshot, but apparently the PC was really busy while the air vent was on screen and the screenshots were taken only after the cutscene started running.

Thank you again for your help.
