Game Not launching

Joshua Hawkes shared this bug 19 months ago
Solved

I click play and then my computer thinks the game is playing and nothing comes up. steam hours for the game is counting up but there is nothing showing up. not even in the task manager, UNLESS I force close steam, then Space Engineers comes up on the task manager but it will not force close. i have to restart my PC to get the game to stop counting hours.

Ive tried all the little tricks everyone has been saying on other Forums, but nothing works.

My game log reads:

Hello, Joshua,

thanks for reaching our forum with your problem.

From my experience with this error, what helped other players to solve it is reinstalling VC Redist 2017. Can you please try?

If this won't work, you can also try these other workarounds that might work:

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (if present in the folder) – it means your game configuration will be deleted. You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If not, and you still would be experiencing this issue, can you please send me a log file from the game after you perform these steps? To see if the log and the error changes.

Thanks.

Kind Regards

So with that being said, I recently upgraded my CPU. i have not played this game since i got my Ryzen 9 5900X. i have played this game on my RTX2070 tho. If thats maybe something thats an issue? how would we proceed? Am I SOL until it gets patched?

Hello, Joshua,

thanks for the update.

Sorry to hear that none of the advices helped you.

You think it's possible to get the cfg file from some other player? Your friend that you play with or something? If you copy paste it into your Roaming/SE folder, it can get us somewhere and you might be able to launch the game properly.

Please try it.

Kind Regards

Hello, Joshua.

thanks for your reply.

But I take it you get further, right? Where is the game crashing now? Are you at least able to launch it and get to main menu?

Is this the whole log? That is strange, because there is no error and no exception or anything that could prevent the game from running.

Can you also please send/show me the log from Windows event viewer?

Kind Regards

No. nothing is happening still. it just tells me its running all fine and dandy but the game isnt opening. Steam Still thinks im playing the Game with the hours going up, and its on SE is on my task manager but i cant end it. once i launch it the game doesnt launch and i also cant close the game either.

Are you asking for the .NET log in event viewer? It shows the log for a couple of other applications for .NET but not one for SE

photo

Hello, Joshua,

yes, it should be .NET runtime error. There should be (at least) one, if the game is crashing for you.

Please see this page for troubleshooting:

Problem: When the game does not start and does not produce any log file.

Solution: Please open the Event Viewer (from the start menu, type Event Viewer). In Event Viewer go to Windows Logs, Application and send the top “.NET Runtime” error from Application: SpaceEngineers.exe (see below image) to our support email (top two are enough).

In order to do this right, please follow very carefully these steps:

1) Select the correct file on the left side (Application)

2) Select first the .NET runtime error from top (using default ordering)

3) Copy the large bottom text and send it to our mail. Note: make sure that the info is from the Application: SpaceEngineers.exe

6315796

You can also try to read the rest of the advices there and try those, if you didn't already.

But from your last comments, is seem that the game is not crashing, really, right?

In that case, can you also please try and add "-skipintro" to the Launch option of the game in Steam? If that won't work, can you please also locate the "Video" folder (you can find it in you Steam folder – steamapps – common – SpaceEngineers – Content). Try to rename or delete the folder.

Also, if you would get any further, but still not able to launch and play the game properly, can you share me new log, if one would be generated?

Kind Regards

So what i was trying to say in my last reply, was that there is no .NET error code for SE. i followed those steps and there are .NET error codes for other applications but not one for SE. it’s not crashing. There’s no error my PC is telling me. It thinks the game is running when in fact nothing shows up. I’ve also tried the -skipintro as you can see in the second log I’ve posted in thread. I’ve uninstalled all my drivers and reinstalled everything. For some reason my Nvidia drivers tho gets stuck on “installing graphics driver” so i tried to do everything that fixed that. And that still gets stuck. My plan is now is to wipe my PC clean and reinstall windows. And format all my hard drives. Which sucks but if that’s what it takes to fix everything. I have no idea what else i can do.

So ive tried a couple things, I unplugged my other monitor, i turned off steam overlay, ive reinstalled directX, I have disabled my Avast anti-virus. and the event viewer still doesnt have a .NET error for Space Engineers. i will provide a picture to ensure you im looking in the right spot. Keep in mind that there ARE .NET errors but they are for other applications.

My new log

So I ended up just reinstalling windows and it works. it could have been drivers messed up somehow, but i deleted and reinstalled all necessary drivers for this game specific. I dont know, now that i think back on it, I did have a Intel CPU and switched to a AMD CPU and maybe the Intel drivers were messing with it? I dont know but i got it to work by a clean reinstall and completely deleted all me Hard drives and my solid state drives.

Hello, Joshua,
