Space Engineers Bug: falling through map

vendorsmail shared this bug 19 months ago
Solved

I’ve found a map glitch where I fall through the map.

SYSTEM SPECS:

Windows 8.1

Intel i9 9900k

EVGA Geforce RTX 2080 Super

ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate LGA 1151 Motherboard

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 SDRAM (two modules for 64 GB total)

GAME MODE:

Custom Game

Star System

Offline

Survival Mode

Earth Like World

ADVANCED SETTINGS:

10x Character Inventory

all others Default

The area where I fall through the map is about half way between my starter drop pod / base and an ice lake.  It’s about 12 km away from the ice lake and about the same distance from the base and starter drop pod. For brevity, I'm going to call it the glitch.

The rover and on-foot player fall though the glitch.

As an on-foot player, I can jetpack back up through the glitch and return to solid ground. Solid unaffected ground is solid from below the same as from above, so only the glitched ground can be flown through.

The edge of the glitch can be visually detected by trying to place a block in the ground. When the placement point goes over the edge, the preview block jumps to the distance it goes to when you place a block in midair (which is below the glitched ground and not visible).

Flying across the glitch and landing on un-glitched ground causes the glitch to heal. The player can then walk back across the formerly affected area without falling through. But upon subsequently saving and loading the save, the glitch returns.

Just as the glitch healed when I made it to solid ground by flying across, it healed when I exceeded its right limit too and returned after loading a subsequent save.

The glitch is at least five kilometers wide and about 700 meters across. The side I started on is very nearly if not perfectly straight.

I hope some of that info can be of use.

Best Regards,

David R.

Hello, vendorsmail,

thanks for letting us know about this issue.

Can you please provide more information about where exactly this place is?

It would be great if you can provide us a video showing this place, and how you are able to clip through it.

If you can also provide a save file with character standing right at the edge of this place, that would be great!

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Hi Ondrej,

Here's the save file.  If you face the sun, the map glitch is 57m to the 3 o'clock and marked with a GPS marker.  The glitch appears the second time I load the save and on subsequent loads, but doesn't appear the first time I load the save after launching the game.  The glitch is reproducible for me if I load without autosave, quit to the main menu without saving, then load again.

I tried making a second save closer to it, but the glitch doesn't reliably occur on that save.

I've made a video with coordinates from a GPS marker at the edge.  The video is 23.7 MB and won't fit with the zipped save file, so I'll try to send it in a second response.

Best Regards,

David

Hi Ondrej,

Here's the video of the rover, some armor blocks, and the player clipping through the map and GPS coordinates at the end.  Let me know if it doesn't make it through email correctly, I'll try making a shorter one.
