Frame Rate Stutters when moving mouse

Alexander Hughey shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

I've found an odd connection between the polling rate of a mouse, and consistent frame rate stutters. I use a Razer Naga Trinity, using Razer synapse you're able to control the polling rate in Hz (screen shot) the options provided are 125Hz, 500Hz, and 1000Hz. The pattern I've noted is the lower the polling rate the less pronounced the stuttering is. Basically being nonexistent at 125Hz. Here is a video showcasing performance at 125Hz : https://youtu.be/aBDgqNaFamM , and then at 1000Hz : https://youtu.be/aSR-KieuX3g. I had the graphical settings at the low preset for both examples, and I'm running a 2080, i7-9700K with 16GB of DDR4 Ram. All my drivers are up to date, and I don't remember this issue effecting me in the past.

Hello, Alexander!

I have been looking into this and it seems like it is an issue that can happen on multiple games and is not limited to Space Engineers.

I have seen one suggestion of matching the max FPS of the game to the same as the monitor as mentioned here (Lost Ark) https://www.reddit.com/r/lostarkgame/comments/qpdjsi/mouse_polling_rate_issue_causes_fps_stutter/

It seems people actually recommend reducing the polling rate here for example with the Division https://www.reddit.com/r/thedivision/comments/b4ho38/if_you_get_input_stuttering_but_without_actual/

Also, which would be a large factor for us, is are you on Windows 10 rather than 11? I have seen 11 mentioned in some threads on Reddit for other games and want to make sure you're not running that as we don't support it.

In terms of things we can suggest for Space Engineers, although may not help your situation:

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards
