Landing gear autolock functions when first created (Survival)

Dementiurge shared this bug 2 years ago
Not a Bug

Behavior: When Landing gears are first placed in survival they are capable of locking onto surfaces, despite being in an unbuilt and unpowered state.

This will not happen if autolock for that block has been turned off and then back on in the terminal (with the landing gear still incomplete) or if the landing gear has been completed and then been made incomplete again. An unbuilt landing gear also cannot be manually locked or unlocked because of its unbuilt state.

Reproduction: Place a landing gear (or related block) in survival on a planet/moon where gravity will cause it to fall to the ground. The landing gear will lock despite being incomplete. This is unexpected.

Expected: Landing gears should only be capable of locking when built/repaired to a "functional" state. Some may consider this a useful feature, but it is inconsistent with the landing gear's overall behavior.

Hello, Dementiurge,

after our design team reviewed this issue, it turned out that this is actually by design.

It actually make sense when you look on it with the reasoning that this behavior is in the game so you can start building for example vehicle from the landing gear without power and it will hold and won't tip over etc.

As there is nothing bugged in this, I will close this thread now.

Kind Regards
