Crash to Desktop after joining server

Stephen Cobden shared this bug 2 years ago
Won't Fix

I keep on having an issue where I join a private server (hosted by a friend), it will load in and, whilst "streaming" it will suddenly pause. At this point it will either crash to desktop or will let me play, and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason as to why.

I have tried verifying integrity of the files and deleting the contents of shadercache, but to no avail

If anything, the problem has now gotten worse. Previously, I would get in after several attempts. Now, not at all - have spent four hours trying to get into the server to no avail. I have tried starting with graphics set to their lowest, reinstalling the game, verifying integrity, deleting the shaderchace, deleting the space engineers roaming folder in %appdata%, updating driver, and reinstalling drivers, all with no success.

Hello, Stephen,

thanks for letting us know and we are sorry that you are experiencing this issue.

Can I please ask you to try also the following steps?

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) - you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Also please make sure that you are running the game on your dedicated graphic card (GTX 1050 Ti) and not with the integrated one that you have on your system as seen in log.

Please let me know if anything from above would help you.

Kind Regards

Hello,

I'm afraid I have tried all those, with no success. However, I have noticed the problem is significantly more acute when I am loading in when I left the game on a planet compared to when I am loading in at our asteroid base. As such, on a whim, I grabbed a bunch of hydrogen bottles and flew up as high as I could with my jetpack during the "streaming" phase. Whilst the game did pause and judder, it continued afterwards with no crash, and I was able to return to the ground with no problems.

I have no idea why this worked, but I thought it worth mentioning in case it may present a solution to those in a similar predicament or elucidate those more versed in the inner workings of the game with a potential cause of the problem.

Are you still experiencing it? Or was it fixed in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for confirming me current situation.
