Suggestion about Custom Turret Controller

I hope I'm not duplication someone's idea (didn't find it on this site).

I'm in love with the vanilla custom turret controller but I really miss a piston controls by movement keys (W/S -> Forward/Backward, A/D -> Left/Right ... etc.).

Since the controller currently doesn't allow controlling the wheels/thrusters I think that will give us a huge advantage when designing/building/using retractable custom turrets, cranes, drill/welder/grinder arms ..... etc.

Thank you

I always felt like cockpits and other controllers should allow you to choose how inputs are routed. For example, normally pressing "A" on the keyboard causes all left-facing thrusters to trigger. However, you could disable or rebind that functionality, perhaps causing it to extend a piston instead, or turn specific wheels on a subgrid.

Yes but I think that should be option for the turret controller or a dedicated block for that purpose, since cockpits and control seats are usually used as rover/ship main controllers. Also having that functions on a dedicated block will probably be easier to design/create and use afterwards.

Example using the block from this suggestion:

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/a-block-that-triggers-block-actions-from-wasd-input

  • W keydown: increase piston speed
  • W keyup: decrease piston speed
  • S keydown: decrease piston speed
  • S keyup: increase piston speed
