A major limitation in the game today is the limit of 128 active VoxelMaterials when creating Voxels (Asteroids or Planets).
For those who work with overhaul mods, it ends up being a problem.
I am the developer of Extended Survival, my mod today creates almost 30 new materials, if placed together with Better Stones which creates another 30 it almost reaches the limit, as the standard game uses 60 of the 128 slots.
It ends up making it impossible to use it together with other planet mods with customized materials.
The game has changed a lot over the years, but this part of the engine has become limited.

What's the limit for custom voxels right now?

Please fix this, everything looks like asteroid stone!

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please do this I love using custom planets and the limit is low for entire systems.

I'd like to enjoy a fully custom system with more depth from mods such as Industrial Overhaul, and currently, I will not, because I cannot if everything looks the same as the stone in space. My standards are too high. Please extend the lifespan of Space Engineers for your community by enhancing the voxel limits!

Its hard to make a system with even 5 somewhat high quality planets without them just turning to stone making it verry hard to enjoy a custom system.

Adding my voice to this feature improvement request, as some progression mods that add many ores are visually incompatible with custom planets; either the ores or the planet voxels must fallback on the asteroid textures.

I also feel like the current Voxel Limit is way too low, I'm having to choose between Planets and Custom Blocks far to much, I've had to remove 1/3 of my Planets and a couple of Mods just for the game to load all the Custom Textures (I don't even have many mods, mainly QoL Mods such as Smooth Voxels and stuff like that)

This is the most important, low-hanging fruit issue Keen could address to improve the gameplay potential of Space Engineers. Currently, there is very little reason to bother traveling to different planets. Go to space and find one uranium and platinum asteroid and you're set, unless you're doing massive mega-projects that you have no reason to do unless for competitive multiplayer.
The game could be 10x more interesting with the ability to combine custom planets with custom resources that you must explore the system to collect and build more advanced blocks. But it currently doesn't support this, and I don't understand why. It's tragic.
If you're not going to develop actual gameplay for Space Engineers beyond sandbox building, please remove limitations that inhibit the community from doing it for you.

A good way to fix this is change the texture index from byte to int and voxel renders to use more than 128 of it.
Add a world config value to set the limit to avoid slow loading. This is a limit set by the early game dev to avoid to many textures in the memory, but today we had better computers, so why fix the limit hardcoded if it can be set by configs and let the players change if he wanted.
This is some screens that shows a voxel with no texture, but the mined ore use that texture:

Honestly, I am absolutely *SHOCKED* that a value is so low--AND EIGHT-BIT?!?!?--in a semi-modern game that has such a focus on modding. *PLEASE* fix this!

I'm honestly baffled that such a low limit is being used. The last time I coded something with a limit like that was back in the 486/QuickBASIC days. Seriously.

I'm fairly upset by this. I used to have world saves with multiple solar systems full of custom planets running without issues (three years ago when I last played). Now I can't even place one full solar system of planets because I've exceeded the voxel limit even after removing two thirds of my planet mods and not adding any new ones. Almost makes me not want to get back into the game since there's nothing to explore.

Hey, at least they got several extra blocks for a quick buck DLC released right guys!?
No need for stupid things like bug-fixing or extensions of mechanics! /sarcasm

This needs to be fixed.!
Making a star system with even just a few custom planets can exceed limits and cause them all to look like stone or not load correctly.
