[1.188.023] Deep Ore Detection

domingo shared this bug 6 years ago
Solved

I started new game on Alien planet.

I started to scout lake for ore deposits, however only shallow ore was detected - and even that not very consistently. Sometimes I even lost ore mark too soon when I moved over it.

Then I modded LG Ore Detector to 2500m, set it to same value in terminal screen and tried again.

All (most) surface rocks in the 2500m radius were detected - ok.

However the situation with deep ores did not changed at all - they started to appear roughly at same range as with unmodded detector (~50-100m) and the detection behaved very similarily (losing some signals as soon as I flyed over them).

I suspect the updated occlusion culling to be behind this behavior.

However I suggest to rather use this opportunity to redesign ore scanning functionality ...

I noticed that enabling full signals improves situation a little bit ... not as in the version 187, but better than with default/normal signals.

Where is this full-signals setting? I can't find it in game or world options.

I believe domingo means the HUD indicators for GPS coordinates and the like. By default that is toggled with the “H” key on your keyboard in game. There will be a few modes to go through. I tried that and did not notice any change but did not test it out thoroughly.

Yep. But full signals works like placebo only ...

Re: Placebo; basically. Cannot confirm whether this makes an actual difference or not, as signal recognition seems to be random as heck. Is the new occlusion system removing ore signals from registering, maybe? That seems like a big change this patch that would be easy to make... over-enthusiastic.

I've been having issues with the Ore detector not seeing ore at 50-60 meters as well. My issues are on asteroids. Even after setting it to 150m Really annoying. This was not a issue before. Some pics down below. No mods. Empty world. Tested on single, and a dedicated server. Still having issues.
